Jute and Santiniketan Leather

Jute items like bags, mats etc. are being produced at Santiniketan by local Santhal Women. The jute yarn is dyed in bright colours before weaving. These bags have been developed of late, incorporating Santiniketan leather. Santiniketan has a rich heritage of batik on leather. These two crafts have been suitably combined to suit the modern urban sensibility.
